OCTOBER 2025

Dr. Joy DeGruy is honored to have been invited to present as Plenary Speaker at the National Association of Public Defense's Racial Justice Conference 2025 in Montgomery, AL. Dr. Joy's presentation, Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome and Healing, delivered on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, helped the public defender in attendance collectively learn how racism and trauma are connected to their legal work and how it ultimately impacts their clients

As part of her appointment to the Provost's Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Morehouse College, Dr. Joy DeGruy delivered a public lecture on campus titled History, Trauma, and Progress: Navigating Uncertainty.
The lecture took place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 in the Shirley A. Massey Executive Conference Center Bank of America Auditorium.

Dr. Joy DeGruy recently collaborated with the Community Empowerment Association of Pittsburgh, PA on September 20, 2025 to present at Rooted in Strength: Honoring Culture, Restoring Hope, and Building Together, a one-day summit focused on engaging with Dr. Joy's groundbreaking work around Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome.

Dr. DeGruy delivered the keynote presentation and led breakout sessions characterized by rich interactive discussions and community building.

MAY 2025

Dr. Joy DeGruy, participated in the UNESCO Conference on Intergenerational Trauma Resulting from Enslavement and Other Historical Atrocities on May 21. 2025 in Paris, France.

Dr. DeGruy was in conversation with Professor David Meghanagi, a clinical psychologist and expert in Jewish Studies. The conversation was moderated by Dr. Natasha Kelly, German researcher and author who specializes Afro-Descendant narratives and Afro Futurism.​
FEBRUARY 2025

The Institute for Mastery and Integration (IMI) collaborated with our team for their free community event, Healing Multigenerational Trauma: Community Conversations with Dr. Joy DeGruy. The day will brought together over 300 attendees, including human services professionals, educators, social workers, faith community members, advocates, elected officials, and emerging leaders.
Dr. DeGruy facilitated two sessions. The morning session, Black, Bold, and Bruised: Understanding Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome, explored the intersection of racial discrimination, trauma, violence, and slavery on African Americans. In the afternoon, she engaged in a luncheon discussion with Black Church leaders, Community Healing: The Role of the Black Church.

This special Black History Month offering was be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at the University of Maryland Shady Grove Conference Center

DECEMBER 2024

​Dr. DeGruy was in Evanston, Il to deliver the keynote address at the National Symposium for State and Local Reparations, sponsored by First Repair. The symposium equipped leaders, stakeholders, and allies who to advance local reparations policies that remedy historic and ongoing anti-Black practices. ​
OCTOBER 2024

​Dr. DeGruy was keynote speaker at the One Planet Summit in San Francisco in October 2024. Since 2017, the One Planet Summit has contributed to reinventing multilateralism, intensifying international cooperation, and taking tangible action for the planet.​

​Dr. DeGruy was honored to join a group of luminaries at the Hillside Conference Events Ubuntu Conference in Atlanta , GA​

APRIL 2024

​Dr. DeGruy was humbled and honored to receive the Francis Lomas Feldman Excellence in Education Award from the California Social Welfare Archives at their 45th Anniversary Celebration and Awards in Pasadena, CA!​ The event was co-sponsored by the University of Southern California's Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work.​​​​​
MARCH 2024

​Dr. DeGruy was in conversation with students and faculty at the University of California at Santa Barbara to discuss Transforming Racial Trauma​. Sponsored by the Office of Black Student Development at UCSB, Dr. DeGruy shared her research and the foundations of her groundbreaking theory of Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome. ​​​​
